Mac's Berry Farm Opens 2018!

Hello! What a long winter we had! Strawberries are a little later this year because of that. In addition to strawberries, we also have pea pods and rhubarb. We are finally able to announce opening day at Mac’s Berry Farm in Bloomer, WI (Tilden) will be Thursday, June 14th at 6 a.m. We usually get picked out early the first few days. If you can wait a week or so, you might get better picking and we’ll be able to be open later. We expect our season to go until around July 10th.

$1.50 per pound (equates to $7-$8 per ice cream pail depending on how full you fill your pails)
$14 for 5 quart pre-picked pails picked up at the farm
$15 for 5 quart pre-picked pails at the Bloomer Post Office (by 9:30 am most days)

Pre-picked orders WILL NOT start until approximately June 20th. Please give us a 24 hour notice. Please note that our pickers start picking at 7 a.m. so most orders won’t be ready for pick up until after 9 a.m.

We are open daily through the season from 6 a.m. – 6 p.m. The first week we are open, we tend to get picked out early and sometimes have to close a day in between to allow the strawberries to ripen for the next picking. Please call 715-568-5526 before heading out to make sure we are open. We do try to accommodate everyone so if our hours don’t work out for you, please contact us and we will do our best to make sure you get your strawberries.

The business number is attached to our home number so we ask that phone calls stop by 10 p.m. Thank you for understanding!

Are you interested in getting delivery to your place of business? If you have a 10 pail order or more at your business in the Bloomer, Chippewa Falls or the Eau Claire area North of Interstate 94. The cost is $16 per 5 quart pail and we need at least a 24 hours’ notice. Email for an order form.

Do I need my own bucket?
Please bring ice cream pails or your own containers if you have them. This helps us keep our prices low. If you do not, we have pails available and will put the strawberries in cardboard flats for you to take home.

How do I keep my strawberries, pea pods and rhubarb fresh once I get home?
a) Keep the strawberries, peapods and rhubarb out of the sun and the heat of a car.
b) Place them in the refrigerator as soon as you can with a damp towel over them.
c) Leave the stems on the strawberries until you are ready to use them, but don’t pile them too high.
d) If you aren’t using the strawberries within 2-3 days, it may be best to freeze them. (See Recipes Tab)

Are bigger strawberries better than the small ones?
No. It doesn’t matter if you pick big or small strawberries, you will still have the same great flavor. It is important that while picking, our rows are picked 'clean' so our plants can produce as long as possible. If you see spoiled strawberries, please help us out by removing and throwing those in the isles. Thank you!

Can I bring my dog?
Yes you can but it is not encouraged. We ask that you keep your pet either in your car if it
isn’t too hot or tied up to your car. Doo Doo in the patch is unappealing.

How do I pick strawberries at Mac's Berry Farm?
a) You will be placed in an isle where you will be instructed to pick half of the row on your right and half of the row on your left. The person in the isle next to you will be picking the other half of the row.
b) Pick only berries that are fully red using both hands (unless you are picking Cavendish-they will have a white side). If you see any spoiled strawberries, please place those in the row away from other berries to help keep our patch clean and producing as long as possible.
b) When you are done picking, walk back to where you started and pick up the flag. Bring the flag to where you finished picking and push into the isle so that we know where to start the next person off who comes to pick. If you meet another person in the row coming towards you, then bring the flags together and push in the row next to each other.
d) Keep berries out of the sun and a hot car as much as possible. Keep the strawberries in the refrigerator with a damp towel over them so they will last as long as possible. Leave the stems on them until you are ready to use them.

How do I pay?
We accept cash or check. We do not have electricity in our patch so we are sorry, but we cannot accept credit cards.

Will berries ripen after they're picked?
Unripe berries will not ripen once picked. Just be sure to pick only berries that are already ripe!

Can we bring kids?
YES! We are a family-friendly berry farm - and we welcome children. We do want your children to have a great experience! So, we trust that you will provide the supervision they need to be safe, and respectful of others and our property.

Are strawberries good for us?
*Strawberries have MANY health benefits! For example...
*Strawberries are full of a special substance called ellagic acid which can help fight cancers.
*Eight strawberries have more vitamin C than an orange, that's 140% of our daily recommended amount.
*One cup of strawberries contains only 43 calories.
*Did you know strawberries can help whiten your teeth? The acids in the fruit help to remove stains.

We sincerely thank you for your continued support of our small, local business! Please feel free to share our newsletter with friends and don’t forget to invite them to our Website: and our Facebook page: @MacsBerryFarm
